The activity side of the Spring Avenue Recreation
Center offers a variety of programs and rooms for people of
all ages. Our activity rooms are programmed by the District
and are available for use by the general public. The activity
wing includes the following:

Our state of the art fitness and weight room is
open to the public seven days a week. The fitness room equipment
includes treadmills, recumbent bicycles, free weights, and
dual strength machines. A yearly membership and daily fee program
are offered to our residents at very affordable rates. Take
advantage of our low rates and work out with us while your
child enjoys a program in the Center.
The aerobic fitness studio will hold all of our fitness classes
such as aerobics, Jazzercise, kick boxing, senior exercise
and many more. The room contains a wood spring floor and
wall mirrors to provide the athlete with a comfortable, healthy
environment. Look for class offerings in our fitness section
of the online brochure.
Due to the large demand for tumbling and gymnastic
classes, the old gymnasium has been converted to house a permanent,
unique large motor development facility. The facility is designed
for children under the ages of 10 years old. Besides the usual
equipment needed for a gymnastic center such as the floor exercise
mat, balance beams, spring boards, mats, and parallel bars,
the facility also offers “Just for Kids” equipment.
This new level of equipment is built to scale just like the
apparatus the big kids use. Your toddlers, preschoolers and
young children will love this new, unique equipment while you
will enjoy watching your child progress and develop their large
motor skills. Look for class offerings in our gymnastics section
of the online brochure.
A large dance studio provides a beautiful setting
for the hundreds of dancers in our Park District programs.
The studio is designed with a spring wood floor with mirrors
and ballet barres throughout the room. Many of our classes
such as ballet, tap, creative movement, jazz, and Irish step
will be conducted in our new studio. Look for class offerings
in our Dance section of the online brochure.
Uniquely designed to accommodate many of our cultural
recreation needs, a large kitchen/arts and crafts room houses
our various program offerings. Cooking classes and demonstrations,
as well as our arts and crafts programs for children through
adults will be conducted throughout the year.
One large room of the Community Center is dedicated
to a year round preschool program. Preschool classes in the
mornings and afternoons will be offered in fall through spring.
Summer brings Positively Play and Safety Village camp programs
to the facility.
Two large rooms are dedicated to multi-use programming
and meetings for the general public. Various programming classes
such as Safe Kids, CPR, and 55 Alive for Seniors are just some
of the programs meeting in this room. Call Mary Defiglia at
630-858-2462 to book a meeting, a birthday party or any other
special occasion.
Tables, chairs, TV, vending machines, and cushioned
benches are just some of the amenities available in this area.
Parents, guardians, brothers and sisters may wait in comfort
and style in the lounge of our lobby area for classes to begin
and end.
