Prior to the November 7, 2006 election, the park district conducted a series of open houses to explain the referendum and gather public input. The meetings were promoted at park board meetings, on the park district's Website, in eblasts and newspaper advertisements.
The park district mailed to every home a tri-fold brochure that explained the referendum, listed the open houses and invited residents to them. In addition, a series of postcards, highlighting the referendum's three key components, encouraging residents to contact the park district for more information were distributed throughout the community.
Complete detailed information regarding the referendum, including its three key components and financial information, was available at the open houses, and in binders at the front desks of Main Street Recreation Center and Spring Avenue Recreation Center. The same information was posted on the park district's Website where residents could view, download and print the information. Click to view the following information:
The complex addresses the needs of record growth in recreational sports and shortage of indoor space and gymnasiums. The new neighborhood facility will include a large, indoor multi-purpose field with special turf, three basketball courts with wood floors, a climbing wall, walking/running/jogging track and is designed for:
- Badminton
- Baseball
- Field Hockey
- Football
- Lacrosse
- Rugby
- Soccer
- Softball
- Volleyball
In addition to serving the greatest number of people by being multi-purpose, this facility will give our youth an advantage by allowing them to play and practice their sport year 'round. It will allow local schools more access to their own gymnasiums. It will also provide for relief parents who will no longer have to drive their kids to Aurora, southern Naperville or Orland Park to use an indoor sports facility.
