Lend a hand this Arbor Day and help plant a few trees. With the loss of our ash trees and the need to re-establish native species in our natural areas, tree lovers of all ages can make a big difference!

Spring Fling
Movie in the Park: Rio 2

Age: All

Bring your blanket or lawn chairs, we’re having our first Spring Fling Movie in the Park! We’re headed down to the Amazon for another adventure with everyone’s favorite macaw. Blu, Jewel and their three kids are living the perfect domesticated life in the magical city that is Rio de Janeiro. When Jewel decides the kids need to learn to live like real birds, she insists the family venture into the Amazon. As Blu tries to fit in with his new neighbors, he worries he may lose Jewel and the kids to the call of the wild.

Bike Rodeo
at Newton Park

Age: 2-10 with Adult

Help kick off the Moonlight Night Ride and test your bike knowledge with a bike safety course. Kids will learn important rules of the road and have a chance to test their knowledge on a miniature riding course complete with real-road challenges! There will be bike safety quizzes, bike challenges and giveaways, too. Participants must bring their own bike and wear a properly fitted bike helmet. Koslow Cycle will be onsite to conduct bike safety checks. You do not need to be part of the Moonlight Night Ride in order to participate.

Community Garage & Yard Sale

FREE TO ATTEND
Let’s go shopping - spring is the perfect time for a treasure hunt! Shoppers are admitted for FREE! Sellers can rent a 10’ x 10’ booth space at our sale (booth layout is available at MSRC). We also have eight tables to rent on a first come, first served basis (one per person). You must register in person at Main Street Recreation Center to choose your booth space and secure a table rental (if needed).

Kite Fly
at Maryknoll Park

Age: All

How many kites can we fly at the same time? Bring your favorite kite, big or small and let’s hope we get some wind! Every child who flies a kite gets a FREE game of golf with a paying adult!

Canoes & Picnics in the Parks

Age: All

Pack a picnic, bring your family and enjoy a nice walk around
the lake, and a canoe ride to finish off the day. The Glen Ellyn
Park District will provide the Canoes, paddles, oars and life
jackets. No grilling allowed.

Commissioner Meet & Greets

Age: All

Enjoy a complimentary “picnic” at your local park with your
family and friends. There will be free food on a first come, first
served basis, the Park District Block Party Wagon will be onsite
and a prize drawing will take place for those in attendance.
Park Board members will be on-hand to answer questions on
items related to the District.

Summer Jazz in the Park

Age: All

Are you looking for a relaxing night out with wonderful music?
The Glen Ellyn Jazz Ensemble, a 16-member group, plays a
mix of your favorite Big Band tunes. Jazz in the Park brings a
touch of Ravinia to Glen Ellyn. Bring a blanket, lawn chairs and
picnic dinner. In case of rain or severe weather, the concert
will be cancelled. No alcoholic beverages are allowed in parks.

June 19 | Music Begins at 6pm
Battle of the Bands

Age: 12-20

Battle for the top spot against other local bands in front of an audience of your peers! The Glen Ellyn and Wheaton Park Districts are searching for bands wishing to perform in this summer’s competition. It’s free to participate. Winners will perform in regional competition, and possibly in Glen Ellyn’s Fourth of July celebrations and at the Illinois State Fair.

Applications are available here. Each submission must include a demo. The deadline to submit applications and demos is 6 pm on Friday, May 8. Selected bands will be notified of acceptance by May 22.

July 4 | 1pm-4pm
Afternoon Festivities

Age: All

Bring your family for a couple of hours of fun after the Fourth of
July Parade. Festivities include: moonwalks; inflatable obstacle
course; penny carnival games with tickets redeemable for prizes;
live music; dancing; and face painting. Plus, concessions will be
available for purchase! A $3 wristband let’s you enjoy all of the
action while supporting the GEPD Scholarship Fund.
