FREE WEEK at Ackerman Sports & Fitness Center

Age: All

Glen Ellyn Park District’s Ackerman Sports & Fitness Center will host its second annual Free Week from November 10-14. Bring your workout gear and give the fitness center as well as select group fitness classes a try! Staff will be on-hand to offer facility tours and answer questions.

Saturday, November 15 | 12pm-1pm
Meet the New Platform Tennis Professional

Age: 18+

Come out and meet our new Platform Tennis Pro, Laura Berendt. Enjoy an hour of free tips and introduction to the game of platform tennis. This great outdoor sport is easy to learn especially under the guidance of a pro. Bring a friend or spouse and have some fun learning a new sport. Free coffee for all event participants!

Registration is required for this FREE event.

Junior Platform Tennis Tournament

Age: 10-14

Grab a partner and join up for a round robin doubles tournament. Paddle Pro Laura Berendt will be on hand to give tips and oversee the event. Pizza and beverages will also be provided. Registration is required, so sign up now! Just $5 per person.

Gobble Gobble! It's a Holiday Movie in the Park - Inside!

Age: All

Bring your blanket or lawn chairs, we’re having our first indoor movie on the turf at Ackerman Sports and Fitness Center. It’s the greatest turkey movie of all time, FREE BIRDS. This fun family comedy tells the story of two rival turkeys who travel back in time to prevent their own kind from becoming a savory Thanksgiving tradition. Free popcorn will be available for all of our moviegoers.

Thursday, November 27 | 8am
Turkey Trot

Age: All

Start your Thanksgiving at the annual Turkey Trot Predicto Race!
Open to all ages and levels of runners, you don’t have to cross the
finish line first to win! The top two runners who most accurately
predict their finish time in this five-mile run win a Thanksgiving treat.
Advance registration is not required, but a waiver must be signed
prior to the event to qualify. There are no timing devices allowed on
the course in order to be eligible for a prize.

This year, help support the Glen Ellyn Food Pantry by bringing
a non-perishable food item to the race! The GEPD will collect
donations and deliver them to the food pantry. Help us make
someone else’s holiday a happy one!

Age: 12-14

Join us for an all access night at Ackerman Sports & Fitness Center! A DJ will be on site while you enjoy friendly competition between friends on the turf, jump around on an inflatable obstacle course, play games in the gym, climb the Ackerman Alps, and verse each other in video games! Light snacks and water will be available. Registration required to attend.

Breakfast at the North Pole

Age: All

Everyone enjoys this tradition, complete with breakfast, carols, activities, and a visit from the original jolly old elf, Santa! Each child receives a favor as a remembrance of this special day! Everyone six months or older must register in advance with an adult.

Gingerbread Class

Age: 3-12 & Adult

Make this holiday season extra special by creating a gingerbread house with your child. Instructions and all materials included for each child and adult to make one gingerbread house together to take home. One child per house, please. Join the fun and get into the holiday spirit.

Family Zoo Lights Trip

Age: 3-12 & Adult

Take a trip with us to Lincoln Park Zoo to see the festive lights! Leave the stress of traffic and transportation behind you, and let us take care of everything! We'll meet at the Wheaton Park District Community Center where we'll board the Holiday Express and sing carols as we head downtown. After an hour of walking through the zoo and enjoying the holiday spirit, we'll drive back to Wheaton while enjoying holiday snacks. Please feel free to bring additional snacks and food for the trip.

Parents, do you need a break to get ready for the holidays, finish last minute shopping, or have some time to yourself? Drop off your kids for a little school's-out fun! They'll play games, watch movies and most important, have fun! Please send a sack lunch and snack for your child.

We're hosting an afternoon of frosty family fun and games, including: ice skating races, sled races, snowball toss, and snow art! Flashlight Egg Hunt

Age: 7-12

Hey kids, there's no school on Friday! Join us Thursday night for the Flashlight Egg Hunt! The Easter Bunny has left some special treats for us around Lake Ellyn and it's your job to find them. Grab your flashlight and basket and head down to the lake to look for eggs filled with candy and toys. Find the "special egg" and redeem it for one of our fun prize baskets. We will meet inside the boathouse and then sneak out in to the park to see what the bunny has left for us. Please be sure to bring a basket and your own flashlight to make egg hunting easier.

Eggs-trodinary Egg Hunt

Age: 6 & Under

Have an egg-cellent egg hunt experience at beautiful Lake Ellyn this spring! Children up to the age of six are invited to join us for a crazy egg hunt with a chance to meet the Easter Bunny and take a picture with him in the LEBH following the hunt! Adults must accompany children; only children need to register. We will be separating areas for kids ages 0-3yrs and 4-6yrs. Photos will be available for download following the event. Dress for the weather, this event will be held outside rain, snow or shine!

Ever wanted to get your hands on big trucks you see driving around town? This is your chance to climb on dump trucks, RVs, fire trucks, police cars, and other large vehicles on the road and at construction sites. Registration is not necessary for this program.

Earth Day Festival

Age: All

Join us for an evening of celebration at the Lake Ellyn boat house on Earth Day, April 22, at 7:00 p.m. We will have over a dozen environmentally- themed groups present, refreshments, and outdoor photography to enjoy. If the skies are clear, we will have a star party with telescopes. Our tradition is to offer environmental groups, educational organizations, and the interested public an opportunity to share information about environmental interests and what has been happening locally. It is always an informative and inspiring event.

Lend a hand this Arbor Day and help plant a few trees. With the loss of our ash trees and the need to re-establish native species in our natural areas, tree lovers of all ages can make a big difference!

Spring Fling Movie in the Park: Rio 2

Age: All

Bring your blanket or lawn chairs, we’re having our first Spring Fling Movie in the Park! We’re headed down to the Amazon for another adventure with everyone’s favorite macaw. Blu, Jewel and their three kids are living the perfect domesticated life in the magical city that is Rio de Janeiro. When Jewel decides the kids need to learn to live like real birds, she insists the family venture into the Amazon. As Blu tries to fit in with his new neighbors, he worries he may lose Jewel and the kids to the call of the wild. This event will be held outdoors weather permitting, in case of inclement weather the event will move to the Main Street Recreation Center gym.
