June 28: The Glen Ellyn Park District Presents the Great Cardboard Boat Regatta®
The first challenge: make a boat out of cardboard, put some people in it and see if you can paddle 200 yards without sinking! The second challenge: paddle faster than everyone else to become the winner! This unique one-day event is fun for the entire family. You, your friends and family are the boat builders. To start, you will receive 15 sheets of construction grade corrugated cardboard with your entry fee. A set of rules will be given to each captain when you register your team. The rules are governed under a copyright and cannot be put online, so registration must be done in person. After you have read the rules, you design, build and navigate your boat in the category that you have chosen. Don’t worry - if you have questions, a free boat-building seminar is held for those captains in need of a little seafaring advice. While you are waiting for your race, you can enjoy a burger, hot dogs and sweet corn, cooked up by the Glen Ellyn Fire Department. As participants or spectators, you will not want to miss this fascinating and hilarious event.
