Got a bunch of snow in your yard? Get creative and join us in some winter fun! Glen Ellyn Park District families are encouraged to get out in the snow and team up to create their own snowman or snow sculpture this winter. Build one anytime this winter season and take a photo of your creation. You can mail your photo to Jeannie Robinson at Glen Ellyn Park District 185 Spring Ave, or email it to: jrobinson@gepark.org no later than March 31. The following two categories will be judged: "Classic Snowman" and "Snow Sculpture" (may include animals -be creative!). Be sure to list all of the names of the creators (and snowman), in the picture, with address and phone number on the back of the photo, or in the email. Beginning March 22, there will be a jar full of jelly beans located at Spring Avenue Recreation Center and Main Street Recreation Center. Come in and see if you can guess how many jelly beans are in it! Winners will be notified by telephone to claim their prize by April 2. Prizes will be awarded to the two participants who come closest to the exact count. In case of a tie, the winners will be determined by pulling names from a hat. Hey kids, there’s no school on Friday! Join us on Thursday night for our first ever Flashlight Egg Hunt! The Easter Bunny has left some special treats for us around Lake Ellyn and it’s your job to find them. Grab your flashlight and basket and head down to the lake to look for eggs filled with candy and toys. Find the “special egg” and redeem it for one of our fun prize baskets. We will meet inside the boathouse and then sneak out in the park to see what the bunny has left for us. Please be sure to bring your own flashlight to make egg hunting easier. [JR]

It's an all new egg hunt experience at beautiful Lake Ellyn this year! The Glen Ellyn Park District’s Semi-Annual Flea Market/Garage Sale is offering a new twist! The sale at the Main Street Recreation Center is still the perfect place for sellers to display and sell their treasurers. However, this spring we are encouraging everyone in the community to have their yard/garage sale on the same day! If you plan on having a sale this spring, have it on the same day as the GEPD sale and we'll promote your sale on our website along with our sale, truly making this a community wide sale! If you don't have a yard, or a garage, you are welcome to participate in the GEPD sale. Each space is 10' x 10'; a layout of booth locations is available at the Main Street Recreation Center. All shoppers are admitted free! Tables are available for rent on a first come, first served basis at $6 per table. We have 8 tables available - please reserve a table when you register for your booth space - one table per person please. [JR]

Please join us as we raise money to sponsor recreation opportunities for families in need. This adults-only event features: golf, Hole-in-One Contest, Silent Auction, food, beverages and entertainment. In the last four years, the Glen Ellyn Parks Foundation has donated over $20,000 to the Glen Ellyn Park District’s scholarship fund. It is the goal of the golf outing to ensure that every child/family in need is provided the same recreational and leisure opportunities as their neighbors. Money raised by the golf outing is used for scholarships to help meet those needs. Register in person at Spring Avenue Recreation Center or Main Street Recreation Center. You can also register by mail and send checks, payable to Glen Ellyn Parks Foundation, to: Glen Ellyn Parks Foundation, Putts for Kids, 185 Spring Avenue, Glen Ellyn, IL 60137. The foundation shall operate to provide financial support to the Park District to develop funds for scholarship needs and capital items aligned with the focus and interest of the Foundation.

After an hour of fishing, come inside the boathouse for a hearty breakfast. The sky’s the limit - and sometimes, the bottom of the sea, when it’s the Glen Ellyn Cardboard Regatta! Join your fellow landlubbers onshore to witness the creativity, bravery and sheer tomfoolery of crews of ordinary souls who dare to launch vessels crafted of corrugated cardboard. The regatta is a unique display of ingenuity, an ode to engineering and imagination. Join the thousands who gather to witness this summertime spectacle, as hundreds set sail in full regalia, commanding vessels that rival the wonders of Willy Wonka’s Chocolate Factory. This year’s regatta features new rules, new race categories and a new Master of Ceremonies and Captain of the Races: Wheaton North High School’s own state and national speech coach champ, Ed Klemm, who is sure to take the event to an exciting new level! It’s an afternoon of hilarious fun, whether you’re onboard or onshore. Will the boats float? There’s only one way to find out! Concessions are available onsite. The Glen Ellyn Fire Department will cook and sell burgers, hot dogs and sweet corn, beginning at 11 am. [MD]

Join the biggest event of the running season! The star-spangled run starts off from behind the Glenbard West football field at 8 am “sharp” on Sunday, July 4. Awards are presented to the top two male and female finishers in each division at 9 am on the football field. A Freedom Four shirt is guaranteed to every pre-registered participant. Day of race registrants receive t-shirts while supplies last. Postcards with participants’ race time and place in category and overall are available onsite within 20 minutes of each runner’s finish time. Total results will be posted on www.drkomputing.com. Pre-registered participants can pick up their race packets at Ackerman Sports and Fitness Center (800 St. Charles Rd) on Saturday, June 19. Day-of-race registration and packet pick-up begins at 6 am and ends at 7:30 am. So, if you haven’t picked up your packet or still need to register, get there early. [DK]
