National Public Lands Day is the nation's largest hands-on volunteer effort to improve and enhance the public lands Americans enjoy. In 2009, 150,000 volunteers built trails and bridges, removed trash and invasive plants, planted trees and restored our water resources.
Join the effort! We’re rolling up our sleeves to restore one of Glen Ellyn’s true “natural” parks. Invite your friends, family and neighbors to help restore the ecological health of the wetlands, prairie and wooded sections of Churchill Park. Each volunteer will receive a special thank-you gift as a token of our appreciation. We’ll serve light refreshments and present the park district’s first Environmental Volunteer of the Year Award. Activities will include:
- Nature hikes
- Clean up
- Seed collection
- Planting
- Cutting and stacking brush
- Trail work
If you have work gloves, a bow saw or loppers, please bring them. The park district will also have tools, gloves and safety glasses for use.

Santa pays you a special visit so you can personally tell him what you would like for Christmas. Due to his heavy schedule, he may only be able to stay for a few minutes - long enough to hear your request and pose for a picture. Unfortunately, Santa’s visit is only for family members on his list, so he cannot do parties. Registration deadline is December 1 or until filled. Each child on Santa’s list will receive a special gift. Please make sure you are available between the hours of 5:30 pm & 8 pm. Residents of the Glen Ellyn Park District only. PS: please leave a light on and shovel your walk so Santa won’t fall. He’s not used to entering through the front door. [JR]
